The primary goal of the University Consortium of Geographic Information Science is to promote the interdisciplinary use and advancement of GIScience and GIS technologies. The UIUC UCGIS chapter includes representatives from colleges, schools, departments, centers, labs across the University. Interests among faculty and staff involved with Geographic Information Science vary.

GIS Fair 2010

The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is hosting the second annual Geographic Information Science (GIS) Fair on Friday November 19, 2010. The event will be held from 10:00 am - 3:00 pm at the Illini Union in Illlini Rooms A-C.

CyberGIS - Postdoctoral Researcher Opportunity at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign

One Postdoctoral Researcher position is open within the CyberInfrastructure and Geospatial Information Laboratory (CIGI) at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, starting immediately. The successful candidate will work on one or more research projects related to cyberinfrastructure, GIS, spatial analysis and modeling, and CyberGIS applications.

Visiting Lecturer/Instructor Position at University of Illinois

The LAS-International/Global Studies Program is seeking a Visiting Lecturer/Instructor to contribute to: 1) the development and teaching of core courses for the undergraduate program in Global Studies, 2) the advising and mentoring of Global Studies majors, and 3) general program development and support.

National Science Foundation TeraGrid Workshop on Cyber-GIS

The NSF Cyber-GIS workshop will take place in conjunction with the 2010 UCGIS Winter Meeting at Washington, DC. The workshop will focus on the following themes and topics:

  • Complex geospatial systems and simulation of geographic dynamics
  • Computational intensity of spatial analysis and modeling
  • Data-intensive geospatial computation and visualization
  • High-performance, distributed, and/or collaborative GIS
  • Geospatial ontology and semantic web
  • Geospatial middleware, Clouds, and Grids
